Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan is a 41 year law enforcement veteran. Sheriff Sheahan began his career with the Du Page County Illinois Sheriffs Office in 1971 where he spent more than 8 years as a deputy and detective.
In 1981, Sheriff Sheahan, his wife Jo and family moved to Arizona and he began his career with the Mohave County Sheriffs Office. Sheriff Sheahan rose through the ranks as a deputy, detective, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and was appointed Chief Deputy Sheriff in 1990. Upon the announced retirement of the late sheriff, Joe Cook, Sheriff Sheahan ran for sheriff in 1996. He was elected to his first term in November 1996, re-elected to a second term in 2000, re-elected to a third term in 2004, and again re-elected to a fourth term in 2008.
Sheriff Sheahan is past president of the Arizona Sheriffs Association, past president of the Arizona County Attorney and Sheriffs Association, and has served on the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission and the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board. Sheriff Sheahan previously served on the Arizona Homeland Security Regional Advisory Commission and has served on numerous boards and commissions through the State of Arizona.
Sheriff Sheahan attended and graduated from Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command in Evanston, Illinois and the F.B.I. National Academy at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.
